What is a fortnight? A fortnight is a term used frequently in modern english usage in Great Britain and possibly in the USA. We understand it to mean a period of time that is 2 weeks. Why is it called a fortnight though? It is believed that in ancient Britain the period of time a soldier would serve on duty in a fort would be 2 weeks. Hence a fortnight.
